Children’s Yoga Franchise Wows London

YogaBugs entertained children and parents around London yesterday.
The yoga franchise for kids invited the press to witness events held at locations held around the capital.
Yogabugs, which teaches children yoga through imaginative storytelling, taught parents as well as children about the health benefits of the age-old Indian practice at a number of locations.

Geraldine Barford, a franchisee in Derby, says:
"It has given the children a positive image of themselves, particularly those who are not necessarily sporty."
"Many children have a weakness in creating mental images which causes difficulty in reading and oral comprehension. YogaBugs classes encourage expression as well as a great physical work out.
YogaBugs Teacher Lynn Exley echoes these sentiments:
"I truly believe that by reaching people with the benefits yoga can bring, we have the capability to change the lives of children and families for the better."
Commenting on the ‘Catch the Bug’ campaign, YogaBugs CEO Mark Goode says:
"We figured this was a fun way of getting out and spreading the word. It's the summer holidays; parents are at a loss as to what do with their children.
“We have had some really positive feedback from parents and their children who have attended classes but we are far from realising our true goal, which is to have every child in the country actively enjoying and benefiting from YogaBugs.
"People often see us as some sort of ‘yummy mummy’ activity, which is far from the truth. Many of our classes are funded through various initiatives, such as Every Child Matters, Change4Life and School Sports Partnerships, in state schools, so it is truly accessible to all children; the challenge is getting the message out there."
YogaBugs founder and yoga guru Fenella Lindsell has set a rather ambitious goal:
"We want to do for children's exercise what Jamie Oliver has done for school dinners!"

Yoga is the practice of moving into stillness. Self esteem comes from learning to be still - in body and mind. When you do this you get in touch with who you truly are and there is nothing you cannot like. Once you have self-esteem you can fly. You become fearless. No one can hurt you with words. This is what children can learn from yoga. The government and teachers need to look at yoga as an essential life skill and incorporate it into the curriculum as soon as they can.
