Mother of three on her Automotive Franchise

Karen Preater joined the Motorkwik franchise network two weeks ago and has already made a good profit.
Before she bought the automotive franchise, the mother of three was an employee for a regional newspaper in north-east Wales.
FS Blog: How did you choose a franchise?
Karen Preater: When I first came across the Motorkwik franchise opportunity I wondered if it was the right one for me. However, it was apparent that they operate in a hyper-growth industry, so I decided to find out more.
My initial meeting was at Motorkwik’s impressive new HQ in Cardiff Bay. I quickly came to realise the size of the market, Motorkwik’s USPs, the company’s ambitions and the huge income potential of the opportunity.
FS Blog: Did you have any concerns?
Karen: At first I was concerned that they operate in a market sector with an established major player, namely Autotrader. However, my concerns quickly evaporated when the business model was fully explained.
I realised that Motorkwik didn't have a like-for-like competitor and that they are totally committed to becoming the number one motoring website in the UK. A goal I am sure they will achieve.
FS Blog: How have you found the first few weeks running a business?
Karen: Having now run my business for two weeks I know I’ve made the correct decision. The overall response from customers has been that they are excited by Motorkwik's refreshing approach and new ideas.
Having previously been stuck with an income of £18K plus small commission, I am more than confident of achieving my first year targets. I now run my own business, plan my own working day and the incentives I have set for myself – new house, nicer car and more family holidays, are now easily within my reach.
FS Blog: Have you secured any orders?
Karen: In my second afternoon of speaking to prospective clients I received my first order. My next four orders came soon after, and within my first two weeks of operation I have generated advertising agreements to the value of £4920, making myself nearly £2,500 in the process.
FS Blog: Great news! So tell us more about the training you received…
Karen: I was very impressed with the quality of the training. The Motorkwik staff are completely dedicated to ensuring their franchisees are fully trained in the products and processes and how to successfully market their franchise.
Since starting on my territory I have received great backup, whether it be in the creation of internet advertising campaigns in my area, or a friendly voice at the end of the phone, I feel completely supported by the team at Motorkwik.

It's good that Karen is enjoying being a franchise owner so far.
It's a good balance, you get some of the freedom of owning your own business, but you still get the support of the company.
